Welcome To Woolsery

Or Woolfardisworthy West to give the village its correct title, but we think Woolsery is a little more friendly.

Woolsery is set within unspoiled rolling North Devon countryside with wonderful coastlines and country walks, and has a heritage going back to the Doomsday book and beyond. The heart of the village was built around the Norman Church and has grown over time into a thriving community with something for everyone. Our Village School is one of the best in the area, and we have a pre-school group know as Sunflowers. We hold annual events that the whole village gets involved in such as the Woolsery Village Fayre, The Weekend of Open Gardens and the Woolsery Show, as well as various local Clubs and Societies to suit all ages, many of which are held at our award winning Community Hall.

Community Volunteer Reading Mentors

Woolsery Primary School is delighted to take part in the Reading Mentors project which has been organised through the Bideford Learning Community in partnership with BookRelief UK. The project will make a huge difference to those children who struggle with reading or who need support in finding types of books which will interest them and help them become independent readers. We have been very pleased with the level of interest this has generated amongst our parents: the school will have eight people training to become Mentors which means we can support even more young people at our school through the project. Each child that takes part in the programme will have two sessions per week with their Mentor, in addition to all of the reading support we offer in school from our teachers, teaching assistants and ladies that come in to hear readers on a weekly basis.

Woolsery Knit-Wits

We are pleased to announce that despite attending fewer craft fayres this year, we have raised £2,063 for the Childrens Hopice, Little Bridge House.  This will have been presented to Emma Puckey at the "Light up a Life" service at All Hallows Wolsery on Wednesday 15th December 2010.

The Raffle for the dolls house made and donated again by Norman Wade came to a massive £411, and is included in the above amount.  We are delighted to say that it was won by ourown Jenny Hart and stays in the village.

It is with sadness that after seven years (2004-2010 inclusive) that the Woolsery Knit-Wits have decisded to cease "trading".  We are a good team and have enjoyed our time together, but taking into account, ill health, lack of transport and price increases, it has reached a natural conclusion.

We would like to pay tribute to everyone who has supported us throughout the years, for without you we would never have rached the final total donated of £9,627

Thank You all

Feb 2nd - We have Sarah and Claire coming to talk to us about the Dogs Trust. Our competition this evening is 'Anything Animal' - which is completely open to interpretation.

March 1st - Rosemarie Cook is giving a demonstration on 'willow work' and maybe we'll be able to have a go ourselves!

Woolsery VILLAGE Website

I've had several emails and conversations lately, where people have talked about the "Hall Website". I would like to take the opportunity to clarify this is not a Hall Website, it's for all the whole Village. So if you, or your group are doing something, or won something or just have something that you want everyone to know about. Please feel free to get in touch, and I'll add it to the site.
